IDOT confirmed late this summer that the nearly $5 million state contract will be awarded to Peter Baker & Son, Co. for work on the 6.52-mile stretch of highway.

Senator Michael BondWinthrop Harbor, ILState Senator Michael Bond (D – Grayslake) announced today that Gov. Pat Quinn has approved $1.5 million in alternative transportation funding for a streetscape improvement program in Winthrop Harbor.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) recently signed off on the improvement grant as part of the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The federal funding will be used to beautify and improve Winthrop Harbor to make it more inviting to residents, visitors and new businesses. Specifically, the money will be used on the streetscape leading to the state-run North Point Marina, the largest marina on the Great Lakes.

Senator Michael BondANTIOCH, IL – State Sen. Michael Bond (D – Grayslake) and Antioch Mayor Larry Hanson announced today that they have secured more than half a million dollars in emergency road funds to repair crumbling, poorly engineered streets in an Antioch subdivision.

The Illinois Department of Transportation recently signed off on the $661,000 grant, which will be used to repair and replace streets in the Woods of Antioch subdivision. The concrete streets have been crumbling for three years because of a design flaw that allows rain to seep under the pavement and wash away the road bed.

Senate Bill 577 requires the Commuter Rail Board to implement a system by Feb. 28, 2010, that would allow Metra passengers to purchase fares by credit card either in-person or online.
