Wilhelmi Honored as Legislator of the Year

SPRINGFIELD, IL State Senator A.J. Wilhelmi (D- Joliet) was honored today as the 2009 Outstanding Legislator of the Year by the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD). Each year, IAPD presents this award to two members of the Illinois General Assembly. State Senator Carol Pankau also received the IAPD Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award this afternoon.

"I am honored and humbled to receive this award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts, and I thank the Joliet Park District for submitting my name for consideration," said Wilhelmi. "It humbles me to receive an award from an association whose mission is to provide outstanding park and recreation opportunities, preserve natural resources and improve the quality of life for all people in Illinois."

Wilhelmi has worked closely with each of the park districts and parks and recreation departments in his district to advance open space and recreational opportunities for the citizens of his district. He recently worked with the Joliet Park District to gain approval of using 70 acres of state-owned land on McDonough Street for 20 soccer fields for the youth soccer program at the Joliet Park District.

The IAPD award was presented to Senator Wilhelmi today at the 2010 Illinois Association of Park Districts "Soaring to New Heights" Awards Luncheon in Chicago.
