SPRINGFIELD – Assistant Majority Leader State Sen. Donne E. Trotter (D-Chicago) released this statement in reaction to Senate Bill 1:
“We members of the General Assembly sent a clear and resounding message with our refusal of Senate Bill 1. That message is respect. We unitedly demonstrated that we must and will respect the constitutional promise to our workers not to diminish or infringe upon any of their well-deserved benefits.
The Senate has acted numerous times in respect to pension reform. The ball is now in the other chamber’s court. The Illinois House must take immediate action on Senate Bill 2404, something that our state’s chief executive should urge them to accomplish, and then Gov. Quinn needs to sign it.”
SB 1 failed by a vote of 16-42.
