ELGIN- Recently, Senator Michael Noland (D-Elgin) attended a ceremony with a representative from AT&T and other legislators in presenting a $10,000 check from AT&T to School District U-46 and its "10 Boys’ Initiative."
The program, "10 Boys’ Initiative" helps more than 1,200 at-risk students. These students are typically paired up with a mentor either a school district member or administrator. The $10,000 donation will go to continue supporting this program, which helps mentors keep students on track with attendance, grades, office discipline referrals, and homework.
"It was an honor to nominate School District U-46 for the AT&T Investing in Illinois Award," Noland said. "Especially during these tough economic times, I salute AT&T in choosing to invest in such a worthy cause like the 10 Boys’ Initiative, which has proven to truly improve the lives of our students."
The AT&T Investing in Illinois Award is given to Illinois non-profit groups and programs that are investing in their communities and striving to make a real difference. This year School District U-46 along with Senator Noland and other legislators sent letters to nominate the "10 Boys’ Initiative" for AT&T award.
"It is vital our at-risk youth have someone to turn to and help them find their way," Noland said. "This program invests not only in the futures of these at risk-students but also in the future of our community. I thank AT&T and U-46 for supporting this vital program and for empowering the youth of our community."
Senator Noland also announced his new satellite office hours this Saturday November 21st, 2009 at the Gail Borden Public Library from 10am-12pm. For more information please contact Rich Jacobs at 847-214-8864.
