Munoz joins colleagues in announcing jobs growth plan

Springfield, Illinois — State Senator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) joined his colleagues today in announcing a plan that will not only stimulate the economy in Illinois, but also put people back to work.

“The momentous budget crisis Illinois is facing will not be solved by slashing the budget alone, we must also work to increase our economic activity,” Senator Munoz stated.  “To do this, we must first create jobs for those who have been put out of work by the recent economic downturn.”

This process began with the passage of the first capital bill in a decade.  Last year, Illinois was able to put $31 billion towards a statewide construction plan to repair and improve our failing infrastructure and create jobs.  In addition, legislation focused on homeowner protections from foreclosure, combating government waste and implementing a budget process that was both transparent and accountable to the people.

The Senate Democratic Caucus’ efforts for this year include building upon existing economic strengths to keep and create good paying jobs across the state. This involves modernizing job creation tools for Illinois communities.  But it also includes protecting the pocketbooks of Illinois residents by curtailing state spending and providing greater oversight in the process.

“I will work with the leaders to ensure that we take a hard look at the current budget process to ensure we cut out waste and abuse,” Senator Munoz said. “We need to work to make sure the state is being responsible with taxpayer dollars.”
