Munoz: Quinn Signs The Capital Construction Bill

Springfield, Illinois - State Senator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) commended the Governor’s decision to sign the capital bill into law.

"This legislation includes not only bridge and road projects, but also dollars for public transit, education, community development and environmental projects," said Munoz. "Illinois has not had a capital bill in over ten years and these funds will allow us to make the infrastructure improvements that are necessary to improve our economy and put people back to work."

"This legislation will not only bring much needed jobs to the district, but also the infrastructure that will aid in stimulating the economy not only for the district, but for the entire State..."

Specifically, the Illinois Jobs Now program will invest $3.6 billion in P-12 education, $830 million for community development, $2.5 billion for economic development projects, and $1.3 billion for environmental projects across the State.

In addition, Chicago area public transit will receive $2.7 billion, which will allow Illinois to leverage up to $2.7 billion in additional federal funds. Also, Illinois will be able to allocate $322 million for the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency Program (CREATE).

In addition to the funds that will be received throughout the Chicago-land area, the 1st Legislative District will be able to take advantage of millions of dollars of infrastructure and construction projects that will benefit our local economy and our community.

"This legislation will not only bring much needed jobs to the district, but also the infrastructure that will aid in stimulating the economy not only for the district, but for the entire State," said Munoz.
