Chicago, IL- State Senator Ed Maloney (D-Chicago) and Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) sat down with community leaders from Maloney’s senate district for a breakfast meeting on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming legislative session.
The 18th District’s mayors and Chicago aldermen were in attendance. They were joined by Representatives Kevin Joyce (D-Worth) and James Brosnahan (D-Oak Lawn), who also represent the area.
"Keeping my mayors and aldermen informed is very important to me," Maloney said. "They need to know what’s going on in Springfield. I was also pleased that President Cullerton and my associated representatives were able to join us. I work closely with these three individuals and I was glad that they could share their perspectives as well."
"Maintaining good relationships with local officials is very important," President Cullerton added. "We all must work together to do what is best for the people of Illinois, and the more cooperation the better."
Maloney brought the group together to discuss recent and upcoming legislative issues, including the state budget and the recently passed capital bill. The meeting gave community leaders an opportunity to voice local concerns and discuss important local issues.
"My district encompasses a large number of different, diverse communities, so I rely on mayors and aldermen to help keep me up to date," Maloney said. "They have a detailed knowledge of the issues their citizens care about and the challenges confronting their communities."
"It’s my job to work cooperatively with the local officials to address the concerns that impact their communities," Maloney added.
