These were all great ideas; however, we need to find a mechanism to generate revenues to pay for these initiatives, and I believe gaming is a way to do that

Senator Terry Link (D-Waukegan) was pleased to hear about the Governor’s continued commitment to creating jobs in Illinois, but noted that without economic increases Illinois is going to continue to face the situation that has repeated itself in recent years.

“I agree with the Governor that we need to continue to invest in children through continue to fund early childhood education programs. Without this early start, children may not be prepared for elementary school and these types of programs can make the difference between a child succeeding or struggling later in their educational career.”

Link, who has introduced gaming proposals in the past, stated that a gaming measure could be one way to help fund these new initiatives proposed by the Governor.

“I am currently working again with all of the stakeholders to continue to work on a proposal that is in more in line with what the Governor will support this legislative session," stated Senator Link. “A measure such as this would be able to fund some of the initiatives discussed by Governor Quinn today.”

During his speech, the Governor also called for a construction program that will help to build “21st Century Schools” which will help Illinois twofold, this program will create jobs while also improving technology in education.

“These were all great ideas, however, we need to find a mechanism to generate revenues to pay for these initiatives, and I believe gaming is a way to do that,” stated Senator Link.
