BRIDGEVIEW, IL – Illinois State Senator Steve Landek (D–Bridgeview) has been recently appointed by Senate President John J. Cullerton to serve on the Local Government Consolidation Commission.
Currently, Illinois has 6,993 units of local government, more than any other state in the nation. Most units of government have the ability to levy taxes, which can lead to increased property taxes. In response to this issue, the General Assembly overwhelmingly passed House Bill 268 (Public Act 97-0316), which created a seventeen-member commission to study the entire structure of local governments, including their organization, powers, jurisdictions, and functions.

CHICAGO, IL – Illinois State Senator Steve Landek (D–Bridgeview), member of the Senate Local Government committee, participated in a joint-hearing with members of the Senate Transportation committee last Friday to review Metra’s budget proposal to reduce services and possibly raise fares.
"The hearing gave us the opportunity to sit down and discuss Metra’s proposals to fill their $100 million budget deficit," Senator Landek said. "Before Metra moves along with their proposed service reductions and rate hikes, it’s essential that they allow for public input. We need to ensure this process is open and transparent to minimize the impact on all Metra riders."
