SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Senator Emil Jones III (D - 14th District) reacted to the scandal at the historic Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip today.

“I am deeply disturbed at the heinous nature of these crimes,” said Senator Jones. "I have reached out to the Office of the Comptroller and the Cook County Sheriff's Department to see what can be done to prevent this situation from happening again. I am working with the Comptroller's Office on legislation that would monitor the care and maintenance of cemeteries more closely. My grandparents are buried in the Burr Oak Cemetery, so I can relate to the many families who are concerned about the care and preservation of their loved ones' remains. I have called the number provided by the Cook County Sheriff's Department and urge anyone who has family buried there to do the same.”

Those with questions about Burr Oak can call the sheriff's department at (800)-942-1950.
