Jacobs Recognizes 4-H Program

SPRINGFIELD, IL Participants in the 4-H Program (four-fold development of youth: head, hands, heart, health) from all over Illinois joined the General Assembly this week for the passing of a resolution declaring March 9 as "4-H Day in the State Capitol."

"The 4-H program is extremely important to the youth of our state," State Senator Jacobs (D Moline) said. "It is a diverse program that is available to youth in every county. Nearly 300,000 nationwide participants are active in the program, making it the largest youth organization in the country."

The mottos of the 4-H program are "to make the best better" and "learning by doing." These mottos demonstrate the program’s mission of empowering youth to reach their full potential by working and learning in partnership with caring adults.

Research has shown that 4-H members do better in school and are more likely to attend college than non-members. The members are also less likely to engage in risky behavior while being more inclined to contribute to the local communities.

"I commend the 4-H Program for their efforts in enriching the lives of our young people," Jacobs said. "This is a program that is available to every person in every county and I thank them for joining us in Springfield this week."
