MEDIA ADVISORY: Senator Hunter Promotes Public Libraries

Senator Hunter Promotes Public Libraries During February’s National Library Lover’s Month

CHICAGOState Senator Mattie Hunter will participate in the scheduled children’s program at the Chicago Public Library and tour the Harold Washington Library Center. The National Library Lover’s Month was established to bring public awareness to all the great resources and educational programs such as "YOUmedia," a digital space for teens offered at the Harold Washington Library Center.

The "YOUmedia" initiative is an innovative 21st century learning space that connects young adults with books, digital technologies and Chicago’s educational and cultural communities inspiring creativity and collaboration. Last year, "YOUmedia" teens were featured presenters at UN World Habitat Day in Washington D.C.

"Too often libraries are an overlooked resource," said Senator Hunter. "Especially during these hard times, we should be encouraging our Illinois residents to use the library as a place to spend a free day of fun, family and learning."
