SPRINGFIELD, IL –State Senator Linda Holmes (D-Aurora) today applauded a new initiative to provide greater transparency in the state budget process. It comes in the form of a new budgetary Web site,
The budget Web site will also allow the public to make suggestions on the state budget via a solutions page. Individuals will be able to submit their comments, spreadsheets, and tables regarding the state budget.
"This is open state government at its best," Holmes said. "This is an opportunity for our constituents to weigh in on the budget process and highlight their concerns and priorities. The public has a crucial stake in the way the State spends its money and they deserve to have their voices heard."
Holmes also stressed the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in state government.
"Providing this information to everyone makes a strong statement that we are dedicated to providing greater transparency in state government," Holmes stated. "After the impeachment of our former governor, many people lost their faith in state government. We are committed to regaining the trust of the people and I believe that this is an important first step."
