Garrett Meets with Glenview Park District

Garrett-GlenviewParkDistrict-050411-600x400Senator Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest) recently met with Marketing Assistant Elizabeth Makelim from the Glenview Park District who was participating in Parks Days at the State Capitol in Springfield.

"I am so pleased to be here today, meeting with all of the other statewide park districts that are participating in Park Day," Makelim said. "It is also a great opportunity to relay the exciting programs Glenview has going on this summer."

Summer events offered by the Glenview Park District include the Springtime at the Farm Event, held at the historic Wagner Farm. This event gives visitors the opportunity to see first hand how a dairy farm operated in the early 20th century, allowing them to make crafts, enjoy hayride tours of the grounds and even helping farmers tend to the fields.

The Glenview Park District also boasts the historical Grove, an outdoor history and nature museum that was first settled by Dr. John Kennicott and his family, who were original settlers to the Glenview area. The land was eventually acquired by the Glenview Park District and is currently open to the public, offering walking trails, a functioning Blacksmith Shop and The Redfield Estate, a home that first served the descendants of the Kennicott family.
