"I am truly honored to receive this award from the Association," Frerichs said. "We have made great progress in the Senate in our conservation efforts and I look forward to continuing this worthy cause. The soil and water conservation districts play a vital role in the sustainability of our environment in Illinois. It is imperative that we continue to support these efforts to ensure the quality and preservation of our environment for future generations." Since taking office in 2007, Frerichs has proven to be a staunch ally of conservation in Illinois. As Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Conservation Committee, Frerichs has advanced multiple legislative initiatives that balance agrarian lifestyles with environment conservation. Earlier this year, Frerichs introduced Senate Joint Resolution 107, which establishes a task force to study the history of soil and water conservation in Illinois. The resolution also makes recommendations for funding soil and water conservation districts on a stable basis. "Senator Frerichs has firmly established his support for soil and water conservation districts and the programs they administer that protect our valuable natural resources" stated James Todd, Association President. "Senator Frerichs’ awareness of the importance of these programs and the value they add to the state and local economy is well represented by his record in the Illinois General Assembly" added Todd. The Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts was formed in 1948. It is a not-for-profit organization governed by a board of directors who represent the state’s 98 Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts. These districts help preserve land, water, wildlife, and other natural resources.
