"In these difficult financial times we need to be able to explain to the people of Illinois where there tax dollars are going," said Senator Delgado, Chairman of the Senate Public Health Committee. "The process the Governor will be implementing will allow everyone time to review the fiscal year 2011 budget proposal and provide feedback on spending." House Bill 2240 changes the date requirement for the Governor to submit the state budget from February 17, 2010 to March 10, 2010. Currently, Illinois statutes state that the budget deadline is the third Wednesday in February. In addition, for this fiscal year, the Governor to submit certain appropriations documents to the General Assembly for both FY2010 and FY2011, two weeks prior to his budget address. The Governor must accept and make public any budgetary recommendations from members of the General Assembly and the public.
