SPRINGFIELD, IL—Illinois State Senator William Delgado (D-Chicago) would like to remind his constituents that LIHEAP (Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program) has begun accepting applications for the upcoming winter season.   “For many Illinois households, energy costs place a severe stress on the family's budget throughout the winter,” said Delgado.  “In some instances, the household is forced to make painful decisions regarding which bills to pay and which necessities to survive without.  LIHEAP is designed to help eligible low-income households pay for energy services.”

While natural gas prices are lower than they were last year, which could result in lower winter heating bills, gas companies are still encouraging customers to act quickly if they are struggling financially. All eligible Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas customers can now apply for LIHEAP funds if they are in need of assistance this heating season

To sign up for the program customers must have proof of income, a copy of their utility bill and social security numbers for everyone in the household.  Anyone may be eligible for a grant if their income is 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

To apply and find the location of the closest LIHEAP application site, Peoples Gas customers can call CEDA’s hotline at: 1-800-571-CEDA (2332) or visit http://www.cedaorg.net/www2/EnergyConservation.html.

Customers can also visit www.peoplesgasdelivery.com for a list of application sites and guidelines.
