SPRINGFIELD, IL-Legislation sponsored by Illinois State Senator William Delgado (D-Chicago) was signed into law today by Governor Pat Quinn that will require the State’s Departments of Aging, Public Health and Family Services to streamline the services they provide to older adults.
“The purpose of this legislation is to protect the rights of all older Illinoisans and to ensure that the services they receive are based on their health circumstances and functioning level, regardless of whether they receive their care in their homes, in a community setting, or in a residential facility,” said Delgado, Chairman of the Illinois Senate Public Health Committee. “Services to Illinois seniors are provided through all three agencies, and this bill will streamline the services offered to ensure agencies are not doubling their efforts and no one is overlooked.”
House Bill 752 requires the Departments on Aging, Public Health and Healthcare and Family Services to develop a plan to restructure the way services are delivered to older adults throughout the State.
The plan is required to address health services provided in private residences, community settings, or residential facilities. Further, this legislation requires that the “money follows the individual” funding principles should not jeopardize the health, safety, or level of care received by the individual. In addition, this legislation will ensure that the preferences of the individual are taken into account before treatment and housing decisions are made.
