State Senator William Delgado (D-Chicago) commented today that the Governor’s proposals in the State of the State address some issues but not the bigger problems facing the state.

“I support the Governor’s proposal to increase tax relief for working families by increasing the child tax credit,” stated Senator Delgado. “However, I believe we can do more to help those who are looking for work or are working multiple jobs just to stay afloat.”

Senator Delgado is also encouraged to hear the Governor announce that his focus this year was to better support early childhood education programs and put additional dollars into the Monetary Award Program to further support our youth attending college.

“Ensuring that children are able to receive early childhood education now will put them on the path to better learning,” stated Delgado.

A top concern Senator Delgado has is how is the state going to pay for these programs.

“These are all great ideas but I am concerned about how we are going to pay for these programs while also drafting a balanced budget,” Senator Delgado said. “I hope the governor has the answers to these concerns in the upcoming budget address.”
