Legislation Strengthening the Park District Code is Signed into Law

Springfield, IL – Legislation sponsored by State Senator Maggie Crotty (D-Oak Forest) amends the Park District Code by limiting eligibility to serve as park commissioner. House Bill 2295 declares a person not eligible to serve as park commissioner if he or she has been convicted of bribery, perjury, or another felony. Furthermore, the bill also restricts those owing taxes or other forms of indebtedness from serving also.

“This bill is about making sure our officials are responsible and trustworthy. Park districts provide public places where families and especially children retreat to for enjoyment. Setting standards for those affiliated is only practical,” said Crotty.

House Bill 2295 states that no person shall be eligible to serve as park commissioner unless that person is a qualified resident of the park district for at least one year prior to election or appointment.

“I want to thank Governor Quinn for singing this bill and I am confident in further security and comfort it will provide.”

The Governor signed House Bill 2295 into law this morning.
