Crotty bill to allow Afghan and Iraq War Vets to qualify for requirements for Illinois State Police signed into law

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Legislation co-sponsored by State Senator Maggie Crotty (D-Oak Forest) that allows veterans of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq to utilize the training received during their combat missions overseas in place of training normally required to qualify for service with the Illinois State Police has been signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn.

Crotty honored as “Legislator of the Year” by the Illinois Public Transportation Association

SPRINGFIELD, IL –State Senator Maggie Crotty (D – Oak Forest) has been awarded the “Legislator of the Year” honor from the Illinois Public Transportation Association (IPTA). 
The IPTA is a statewide organization that supports public transportation, such as buses and trains.  The Association works with state government and its members to help craft legislation in support of public transportation.

Crotty urges public to donate items to Crisis Center of South Suburbia

SPRINGFIELD, IL –State Senator Maggie Crotty (D – Oak Forest) is urging members of the public to donate needed items to a local organization that works to provide emergency shelter and other essentials for individuals and families victimized by domestic violence.

The Crisis Center of South Suburbia, located in Tinley Park, has provided emergency services to domestic violence victims since 1976.  The Center provides housing, food and hygiene products to families in need.

Crotty co-sponsored bill to increase newborn screenings signed into law

SPRINGFIELD, IL Legislation co-sponsored by State Senator Maggie Crotty (D Oak Forest) that expands the number of diseases that newborns are screened for has been signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn.

Senate Bill 1761 adds Hurler Syndrome, Hunter Disease and Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Syndrome (SCIDS) to the range of diseases that infants are screened for after birth.

Series of Crotty bills to help mentally ill Illinoisans signed into law

SPRINGFIELD, IL Legislation both sponsored and co-sponsored by State Senator Maggie Crotty (D Oak Forest) designed to help Illinoisans with mental health issues have been signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn.

First, House Bill 2084 establishes the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Services Strategic Planning Task Force. The Task Force will develop a comprehensive 5-year strategic plan for Illinois’ mental health services, aimed at improving access to care, reducing regulatory redundancy, and maintaining financial viability for providers.

Crotty co-sponsored bill to protect mentally ill Illinoisans signed into law

SPRINGFIELD, IL Legislation co-sponsored by State Senator Maggie Crotty (D Oak Forest) that will protect Illinoisans with mental health issues has been signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn.

House Bill 653 gives the Department of Human Services broader authority to initiate reviews and monitor community integrated living arrangements for mentally ill or disabled residents.
