Senate Bill 1900, sponsored by Senator James Clayborne (D-Belleville), creates the Brownfield Remediation Tax Credit, providing valuable incentives to companies looking to build, to clean up and rejuvenate these properties by offering project costs such as restoring ground and surface water, reporting expenses, eliminating any toxic chemicals from the property and many others. "Many of the corporations that caused contamination and damage to the land originally have now gone bankrupt," Senator Clayborne said. "Unfortunately, that means that the land has sat there for many years untouched. This is our initiative to start cleaning up these properties." This new tax credit will also create, and help to keep local jobs in Illinois. Without this new incentive, companies would continue to expand outward instead of using already existing land. Senate Bill 1900 now moves to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
SPRINGFIELD, IL – Legislation passed out of the Senate this week that aims to clean up and rebuild land that has been sitting idle for continuous years.
