windenergy-75x75A report released by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) shows Illinois led the nation in wind turbine installations in 2011, installing a total of 404 turbines across the State. Illinois was behind only California in the amount of power generated by these new turbines.

The Chicago Sun-Times highlighted the AWEA report with a focus on an Elgin based wind energy manufacturing company that is benefiting from the dramatic increase in wind energy use. In the last eleven years, Winergy Drive Systems Corporation has grown to employ more than 200 employees and is one of twenty-eight Illinois based companies that produce parts for the wind energy industry.

 

Springfield, IL — State Senator Dan Kotowski (D-Park Ridge) passed legislation out of the State Senate on Friday that will provide job creating tax credits to Illinois businesses. Senate Bill 2025 encourages businesses to locate or expand their operations in Illinois.

CLICK TO ENLARGESPRINGFIELD, IL—Over $4.8 million in infrastructure contracts have been approved for the 43rd Senate District, according to State Senator A.J. Wilhelmi (D-Joliet). Wilhelmi said the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that the contracts are part of the agency’s multiyear approach to infrastructure improvements. Scheduled to begin soon, the projects will help in the maintenance of roads and bridges in Will County.

Governor Pat Quinn recently met with Caterpillar Inc. CEO Doug Oberhelman after news broke last month that Mr. Oberhelman sent a letter to the Governor regarding his concern about four states soliciting the company for its relocation. Although this letter was intended to be a private correspondence, its public coverage became an opportunity for an important dialogue about the state's business climate.

SPRINGFIELD, IL Today, State Senator Michael Frerichs’ (D Champaign) bill to protect economic development and job creation through the use of Enterprise Zones passed the Illinois State Senate with unanimous support. Many of Illinois’ Enterprise Zones were set to expire in 2013. This bill allows local governments to extend the timeline by an additional 20 years.

SPRINGFIELD, IL— Governor Quinn recently signed into law Senator Michael Noland’s (D-Elgin) proposal to create tax check-offs for four statewide charities.  Tax check-offs allow Illinois residents to make a charitable contribution while filing Illinois income tax returns.

“Tax check-offs encourage people to contribute to important causes,” Noland said.  “State government cannot afford to finance all the social services, environmental conservation areas, and historic sites in Illinois.  This is just one way that we can encourage the public to support causes that they believe in.”

National group recognizes senator for his leadership

altPARK RIDGE, Ill. – State Sen. Dan Kotowski was honored with the National Coalition for Capital’s “Champion of Small Business” award at a ceremony held in Louisville, Ky. on Tuesday.   

The Washington, DC-based NCFC is a non-profit, nationwide coalition of leaders supporting economic development and job creation through long-term access to capital for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

SPRINGFIELD, IL Governor Quinn signed legislation into law today sponsored by Illinois State Senator William Delgado (D-Chicago) which will allow employees to collect their unpaid wages from their employers.

"This legislation was brought to me by the Chicago Workers’ Collaborative and Working Hands Legal Clinic," Senator Delgado said. "The change in the administrative procedure at the Department of Labor would streamline the process and allow for the efficient resolution of small claims."
