SPRINGFIELDState Sen. Michael Bond (D-Grayslake) announced today that the State is ready to move forward on plans to resurface a portion of Illinois Route 137 in Lake County.

IDOT confirmed late this summer that the nearly $5 million state contract will be awarded to Peter Baker & Son, Co. for work on the 6.52-mile stretch of highway.

Senator Gary ForbyBENTON, IL- Work will begin on the long-awaited expansion of Illinois Route 13 between Marion and Carbondale tomorrow, and State Sen. Gary Forby (D-Benton) believes the project will have a positive economic impact on Southern Illinois, creating jobs and strengthening regional commerce.

"This is one of the major projects funded by the capital construction bill we passed last spring," Forby said. "It’s great that we’ve been able to put people to work so quickly."

Senator Michael NolandELGIN, IL State Senator Michael Noland’s (D-Elgin) announced today that legislation designed to prevent urban food deserts, create new community jobs and promote Illinois local farms was signed into law by Governor Quinn.

House Bill 3990 establishes a Local Food, Farms, and Jobs Council. The council will be responsible for ensuring that 20% of all food and food products purchased by state agencies and state owned facilities come from Illinois local farms by the year 2020. Additionally the law will increase the accessibility of fresh produce, grains, meat, dairy and other foods necessary for a well-balanced diet to urban areas.

Image of a wind turbine.Springfield, IL- An initiative of Illinois State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) has been signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn which will increase economic development by providing training programs in various renewable energy fields.

"I believe it is important to do whatever it takes to put people back to work," said Senator Hunter. "Renewable energy is a relatively new field and Illinois need to be proactive in securing these types of jobs throughout the state."

Senator Michael BondANTIOCH, IL – State Sen. Michael Bond (D – Grayslake) and Antioch Mayor Larry Hanson announced today that they have secured more than half a million dollars in emergency road funds to repair crumbling, poorly engineered streets in an Antioch subdivision.

The Illinois Department of Transportation recently signed off on the $661,000 grant, which will be used to repair and replace streets in the Woods of Antioch subdivision. The concrete streets have been crumbling for three years because of a design flaw that allows rain to seep under the pavement and wash away the road bed.

Map of the upper Mississippi River.SPRINGFIELD, IL – Legislation sponsored by Sen. Michael Jacobs (D – Moline) was signed into law this week creating the Upper Mississippi River Port District.

Senate Bill 1784creates a Port District for Jo Daviess and Carroll Counties. This will provide the district with rights to construct, operate, and maintain port, harbor, water, and land facilities. It also permits the district to enter into any agreement or contract with any airport for the use of its facilities, as well as develop, expand, and construct those facilities as necessary.
