Using local money to pay the Regional Superintendents and fund their offices was never intended to be a permanent fix. We need to take a long, hard look at whether we need these regional offices, or if the jobs the law asks them to do can be more efficiently handled elsewhere in the public education system.- Sen. John Sullivan“”
Click on the map to find your ROE by district.State Senator John Sullivan (D-Rushville) passed a measure recently following through on a promise he made during last fall’s veto session in regards to Regional Offices of Education (ROEs).
Governor Quinn eliminated funding for the program last year by slashing funding for ROEs, including money to pay the salaries of the state’s 44 elected Regional Superintendents. In response, Sen. Sullivan was able to pass a bill to temporarily fund the program. The measure also created a commission to study and review the role of ROEs.
To ensure that the commission’s findings will be incorporated in this year’s budget talks, Sullivan this week passed a measure that moves up the reporting date four months earlier – by April 1, instead of by August 1.
