The Economic Development Council for the Southwest Suburbs (EDCSS) recognized State Sen. Ed Maloney (D-Chicago) for his efforts to foster a favorable business climate at their annual Business Champion Awards Banquet last night.
The business development group selected Sen. Maloney as this year’s recipient of their Excellence in Government Award. Senator Maloney has long been supportive of efforts to encourage business development and support existing businesses. EDCSS selected Maloney for his foresight in community planning, dedication to economic development, and his outstanding leadership in advancing education as Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee.
This year in the Illinois Senate, he supported efforts to increase State investment in emerging technology, provide grants for workforce training, and give tax credits to businesses that refurbish vacant buildings. He actively works with many local business and charitable organizations, serving on the St. Xavier University School of Education Advisory Board, the little Company of Mary Hospital Foundation Board, and the South Suburban Board of the American Cancer Society.
“A thriving local economy contributes a great deal to the community’s quality of life,” Maloney said. “I’m very pleased to know that local business leaders recognize my efforts to contribute to the southwest suburbs’ economic development. I look forward to working with them in the future to build an even more vibrant business community.”
“I believe that since community colleges and school districts are important parts of the local culture and economy, they should be able to invest in local businesses,” Maloney said. “Building better ties between local groups will result in a stronger sense of community and cooperation.”
