Illinois Gets Top Rank for Best State to Make a Living

altFor some time, pundits, partisans and talking heads have repeatedly predicted decades of doom and gloom for Illinois’ economy and the ability for working families to get ahead.  The negative rhetoric often overlooks some of the hard facts regarding the state’s attractiveness and amenities.  But, MoneyRates.com just ranked Illinois at the nation’s top state for making a living.  The number one slot serves to debunk some of the tired, old talking points that many Illinoisans are growing weary of.

From the article:

“At $41,986.51, Illinois had the best adjusted-average income. The unemployment rate in Illinois is not especially low, but the state benefits from relatively high average wages, a low state tax rate, and a below-average cost of living. As an added plus, you can make good use of your money once you earn it in Illinois. Four of the best banks in America, based on a MoneyRates.com analysis of factors like customer service, checking account fees, and savings and money market rates, have operations in Illinois.”

It is true that Illinois faces historic fiscal and economic challenges and times are still difficult for most working families.  But, the MoneyRates.com report is certainly good news and shows that Illinois is a great place to call home.
