Senator Michael Noland Bio

State Senator Michael Noland brings years of service to the Illinois General Assembly. He has a lifetime of public service, whether it be within the military, the courtroom or the Illinois State Senate. Senator Noland has served the people of this country and the state with distinction and a work ethic that is demonstrated by legislation.

He served as United States Navy Corpsman, serving with the 4th Marine Division and working at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital. While on active duty, he received various awards include the National Defense Medal, the Navy Marksman rating, the Good Conduct Badge and letters of Commendation and Appreciation for service during the Persian Gulf War while serving stateside.

Following his graduation from Elgin High School, Noland worked his way through college, graduate school and law school, receiving his undergraduate degree from University of Illinois at Chicago. He went on to earn a law degree from John Marshall Law School and an MBA from the University of Illinois. He then served two years as an attorney with the Kane County Public Defender’s Office and currently has a private practice based in Elgin.

Elected to the Illinois Senate in 2006, Senator Noland has taken his work ethic to the Illinois State Capitol. As an advocate for greater accountability in government, Senator Noland has championed ethics reform, including fighting to establish campaign contribution caps and giving the people the right to recall unethical elected officials. He also passed legislation to provide more transparency when it comes to the state’s share of federal stimulus funds.

Senator Noland also takes a keen interest in improving the environment. He has passed bills to establish wind energy as a main source of the state’s energy needs. He also sponsored legislation to establish and operate a renewable energy grant program to assist school districts in the installation, acquisition, construction and improvement of renewable energy sources in public schools.

Senator Noland is also committed to the safety of residents, not only in the 22nd District, but also statewide. To that end, he has taken the lead in establishing anti – stalking legislation expanding court authority to issue orders of protection against those who would intimidate residents through stalking.

Working to strengthen our communities, Senator Noland passed legislation to provide resources for food banks in Illinois, supplying those organizations on the front line in the battle against hunger with greater opportunities to feed those in need.

Senator Noland, his wife Veronica and their two children reside on Elgin’s northeast side.

Resides in Elgin with his wife, Veronica, and their two children.
